This is a story that documents the life of Alex Ward, an eccentric octogenarian car dealer. The son of Harold George Ward, HM Chief Inspector of Taxes, Alex was born 1919 and died on June 27th 2003. In his late 20's Alex discovered that, after women, few things pleased a man more than a car and having completing a degree at Oxford University in 1947 he set up in the used car business. Alex continued in this profession until the day that he died, and still reigns as the oldest regular at the Chelmsford Car Auction. Three of his four sons joined him in the business, and together with the adopted sons, lodgers, and mechanics they operate from No.18 Hercules Street in Holloway, North London.
