Léonie Hampton's Biography / cv

 

Léonie Hampton was born in London in 1978. She lives and works in Devon, United Kingdom.

Léonie Hampton began to photograph at the age of seven with a point-and-push Le Clic Camera. After graduating in Art History at University College London and SOAS in 2000, she continued her studies in Photography at the London College of Communication.

Since then she has exhibited in solo and group shows in the U.K. France, The Netherlands, Scandanavia, Vienna, Italy and Canada. Successive photo-based projects have been funded by Wellcome Trust and the British Council and her 16-part photo Installation was purchased for the permanent collection of the MEP (Maison Européenne de la Photographie - Ville de Paris) in 2008.  In 2011 her award-winning 128-page book In the shadow of things was published by Contrasto (Italy).

Léonie is a part-time teacher for MA Documentary Photography at London College of Communication. She co-founded and runs Still/Moving, a not-for-profit organisation hosting film and photography work-shops and seminars. Formerly known as Léonie Purchas, she has been professionally working as Léonie Hampton since 2010.
